Alien sculpture by Kijara1 Alien sculpture by Kijara1
Bet you didn't know I used to do sculpture ;-)

This is a clay sculpture of an Alien (a xenomorph inspired by the original Alien movies). It measures approx. 50 cm/20" in lenght.

I'm sorry for the bad image quality, but I did this back in good old 2001 before everybody had digital cameras ;-)

The Alien design originally belongs to H.R. Giger, but is now the property of Fox, Dark Horse Comics and God knows what else...

Nifty! I keep telling myself I'll get back into my sculpting and I stupidly keep finding things to do other than that. Sigh!

I used to be all into clay (the type that is always soft) and I was actually good at it. Making small little peoples with lot of details, but I fell so much in love with drawing... And... Yeah, my point is, I feel your pain. :(

I broke up with my only talent =__=;

I love this. The original ALIEN was always my favorite because of the mystery around the whole situation. Poor Nostromo crew...

And I love those six-fingered hands! Strange, but at the same time functional and graceful.

Oh yeah, that's my favorite too
And I just HAD to do those six-fingered hands even though it's a lot of work with such small details. I have a tattoo of a traditional Alien on my ancle, and when the tattoo artist drew up the design, he asked me how many fingers it's supposed to have, and he was all like "aaaaaaw dammit!" 'cause I knew it's supposed to have six - he was hoping to get away with less :XD:

The traditional first alien is best. I hate the way that they could never even keep details as simple as the number of fingers straight! In the first-six; the second-three; then in Resurrection-four.

Then they have to come up with reasons for said changes. In the secound, it was part of their maturation process. In the fourth, a result of the human/xenomorph hybrid DNA. *directs anger at keyboard*

Don't even get me started on that "predalien" abomination!

haha lol :XD:
I hate it when they're lazy and try to make excuses and explanations by modifying the 'myth' and the biology.
I can see how predaliens are tempting to make, but they've gotten themselves in a huge mess with that concept... the whole "taking after the organism the alien is incubated in"-thing just seems generally inconsistent - sometimes it looks a bit like the host, sometimes it doesn't and sometimes it looks exactly like the Alien incubated in humans even though it's incubated in an organism on an alien planet

I know- lots of confusion! Like if they do take after the organism they incubate in, then why do the aliens in the fourth film have digitigrade legs even though they were all hatched from human hosts? Taking after the host would make sense, but they're always so inconsistent it just makes you sick.

Haha - I've always been annoyed by that difference in the legs! You know what their excuse is? That Ridley Scott and Giger originally wanted the Alien to have the digitigrade legs, and that they just completed the design that couldn't work out back in '79, because they HAD to do the man-inside-an-Alien-suit thing back then

That, and most shots of it in the movie only show the top half, or close ups focusing on the face, so the legs weren't a main concern. That 'less is more' mentality really worked in that movie because it left a bit of mystery. Now, they show off a monster in the first ten minutes of a movie. Culture and cinema are really taking a downturn.

Yeah, I think so too - I really love the whole idea that it's what you DON'T see that scares you the most, they're taking away the spookiness by showing everything within the first 10 minutes
